In spite of the outcry of thousands of Canadians that opposed the nomination of Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada, the Governor General will give him his snowflake tomorrow morning in a ceremony that will take place at the Citadel of Quebec. “We are strongly opposed to a man who is a professional killer of unborn children in their mothers’ wombs being rewarded with the Order of Canada,” said Jim Hughes National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “Many who have received this formerly prestigious medal have already returned theirs in protest,” he continued. On July 1st, the Governor General announced that Henry Morgentaler had been named to the Order of Canada. Immediately after, many groups and individuals spoke out against the fact that the greatest civilian honor of our country was to be given to a man that triggers such division on fundamental issues. The Order of Canada is a symbol of unity not division. Campaign Life Coalition commissioned a survey of over 150,000 Canadian household. They were asked the following question: Do you believe abortionist Henry Morgentaler should receive the Order of Canada? Amongst the 13,000 respondents, more than 56% were opposed to Morgentaler receiving the award. Also, more than 100 Members of Parliament spoke out publicly against Morgentaler’s nomination. Many past recipients of the Order of Canada returned their award, stating that it had lost its value because of the nomination of Henry Morgentaler. We invite Quebecers who still believe the principles of justice and transparency to gather in front of the Citadel of Quebec, secondary residence of Governor General on Friday October 10, 2008 at 9:30 am. Campaign Life Quebec will present at this gathering a petition signed by more than 3,000 Quebecer who oppose the nomination of Henry Morgentaler as a recipient of the Order of Canada.
