Opposition plans to promote abortion in developing countries is
politically motivated and not care for women and children

On January 27, 2010 Prime Minister Stephen Harper unveiled a compassionate plan to help women in developing countries in preparation for the G-8 meetings this year which would provide quality care for mothers and babies. Since that time and urged on by the women’s caucuses of their parties, opposition MPs have been attempting to include contraception and abortion.

“Opposition politicians in Canada seem obsessed with the view that the only help we can provide women for their babies is to prevent or eliminate them,” said Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “Liberal and former NDP MP Bob Rae, intends to introduce a motion on Tuesday, March 23 in the House which insists that the Government initiative must include ‘the full range of family planning, sexual and reproductive health [abortion] options’, he continued.

“Canadians want real health care for women in the developing world and oppose the use of health care terminology to force abortion and sterilization on those women,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, National Organizer of Campaign Life Coalition. “Our resources can make a difference to mothers who are desperate for care for themselves and their babies in countries where even the basic necessities are an unknown luxury.”
Campaign Life Coalition urges the MPs to hold the course, vote against this motion and follow the original plan of helping women and children with clean water, nutritional programs, inoculations and good medical care.
