MP tables Bill to Protect Pregnant Women and their Preborn Children

Campaign Life Coalition is pleased to inform you that the new session of federal Parliament has kicked off with a much-needed, common sense bill.

Pro-lifers have cause to cheer this bill. Not only does it fill in a terrible gap in Canada’s criminal justice system - which was long overdue in being addressed - but it also increases respect for the dignity and intrinsic worth of preborn children.

On February 23, 2016 a rookie Conservative MP, Cathay Wagantall (Yorkton — Melville, SK) introduced private member’s bill, Bill C-225, into the House of Commons. It seeks to amend the Criminal Code to make it a separate offence to kill or injure a preborn child while committing violent crime against a woman while knowing she is pregnant. It would also add stiff minimum sentences if the unborn child is killed or injured.

This Bill is being referred to as Cassie and Molly’s Law. Cassie was brutally murdered while seven months pregnant with her unborn daughter, Molly. Molly’s father, whose name is Jeff Durham, has used his grief to seek justice for the murder of his unborn daughter.

His tragic loss may finally bring about long overdue changes to the criminal code that have failed in the past, when similar bills were introduced.

Please watch this video plea for justice by baby Molly’s father and grandmother:

Bill C-225 has thus far only been introduced in the House of Commons. It has not yet received debate nor a vote.

WHAT'S THE BENEFIT?

Although this Bill does not attempt to change the legal status of an unborn child and does not attempt in any way to stop abortion, it shows that baby Molly does indeed matter, as do the lives of all preborn babies who are deliberately murdered. It is a travesty that the loss of these cherished preborn lives receive no acknowledgement in law, nor recognition of their intrinsic value to the mother and father who wanted them so very much.

We thank MP Wagantall for bringing this Bill to Parliament. We wish Jeff Durham all the best in his righteous campaign, and pray that he receives justice for, and affirmation of, his dual loss of the woman he loved and his baby daughter.
