Join a party
The most important reason is so that you can participate in “nomination meetings” which are held to select a new party candidate to represent the riding in the next election. If you are a card-carrying member of the party, then you are allowed to vote at the nomination meeting. Two other good reasons to join a party are: a) you may be invited to attend party policy conventions where policies for the entire party are proposed and voted on; b) if you volunteer on the board for the local constituency, you can help influence policy proposals which then get submitted for consideration at the national/provincial policy conventions.
This is the easiest way to ensure there will be a candidate in your riding who stands for life and family values. Unlike general elections, not many people show up to nomination meetings. In general elections thousands show up to vote. However at nomination meetings, only a few hundred people attend and sometimes fewer than 100. This means if there are a lot of pro-lifers registered as party members, they can quite handily elect the good candidate. Please do not underestimate the importance of nomination meetings. This takes much less effort than getting-out-the-vote for general elections and can have far bigger pay-offs. Please contact us to find out who you can get involved.
