Thousands expected to march for life and to keep deadly abortion drug RU-486 out of Canada

Ottawa, May 7, 2014 – Thousands of Canadians are expected to rally on Parliament Hill and march through the nation’s capital tomorrow for the 17th National March for Life demanding legislation that protects all human beings from the time of conception to natural death. This year’s theme presents a double entendre: RU-4LIFE? A question we pose to legislators with emphasis on the controversial and deadly abortion drug RU-486 which is currently under review by Health Canada in a process lacking in transparency.

“More than 100,000 pre-born human beings are killed every year in this country, adding to the millions of innocent victims since 1969’s infamous omnibus bill,” said Jim Hughes, President of Campaign Life Coalition. “And yet, Health Canada is considering more bloodshed in the form of RU-486, a deadly chemical abortion drug that kills developing human beings at 5-9 weeks gestation and has a track record of killing their mothers as well by causing severe bleeding, infections and other life-threatening complications.”

Back in 2001, a woman in British Columbia died during the Canadian drug trials for RU-486. In the United States, where the drug has been available for several years, at least 14 women have died after taking the drug.

“The growing numbers of Canadians who attend the National March for Life in Ottawa and provincial marches across the country is a reflection of a growing movement of citizens who are informed, engaged in their communities, and becoming more politically active,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, National Organizer for Campaign Life Coalition. “They will not support candidates running for office who support surgical or chemical abortion regardless of their party affiliation.”

The pre-march rally, which begins on Parliament Hill at 12 noon will feature parliamentarians and Canadian pro-life and religious leaders. The March through downtown Ottawa begins at 1:30pm. More than 1,200 people have already registered for the Rose Dinner and Youth Banquet, the evening of the March.
