Architect of controversial sex-ed to plead guilty to child porn charges; grooming concerns arise

Toronto, Mar 3, 2015 – A Toronto Court is expected to hear a guilty plea today from former Deputy Education Minister Ben Levin to charges which includes one count of possessing child pornography, one count of making child pornography, and one count of counselling a sexual assault on a child. This comes a week after the Wynne government released their already controversial sex-education curriculum to Ontarians. The curriculum was originally developed under the supervision of Ben Levin.

“Should our children be taught a curriculum that was written under the direction of a child pornographer and sexual predator? That raises the specter of grooming children for exploitation.” said Mary Ellen Douglas, Ontario President for Campaign Life Coalition. “It is appalling that the Liberal government continues to defend a curriculum for young children that was overseen by a man who has admitted to counseling an undercover police officer posing as a mother, to rape her child for him.”

The reintroduced 2015 curriculum is almost identical to Ben Levin’s 2010 curriculum. It still includes age-inappropriate content, including various theories on sexuality and multiple genders that parents rejected five years ago. They continue to reject it today as evidenced by petitions totaling more than 100,000 signatories. View petitions here and here.

“Let’s say we set aside parental concerns about the curriculum being too explicit at too young an age.  The involvement of a child predator in its development so taints it, that all fair-minded MPPs should support its immediate retraction on this basis alone”, said Jack Fonseca, spokesperson for Campaign Life Coalition. “Moms and dads don’t feel comfortable knowing that the Liberal government enlisted the help of a child pornographer to develop the new Sex-Ed curriculum for elementary grades. Neither should their elected representatives at Queen’s Park.”

Campaign Life Coalition urges Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government to protect elementary grade children by scrapping this curriculum all-together.
