Campaign Life Coalition regrets Liberal majority

Toronto, October 19, 2015 - Campaign Life Coalition expresses concern over the newly elected Liberal majority government which, under Justin Trudeau, will push for more abortion access in Canada and around the world and will refuse to invoke the notwithstanding clause to allow the democratic process to decide euthanasia and assisted-suicide legislation in Canada.

“CLC urges the Liberal caucus to refrain from passing a permissive euthanasia and assisted-suicide law that will surely put the lives of many vulnerable Canadians at risk,” said Jim Hughes, president of Campaign Life Coalition. “I also call on Trudeau to represent all Canadians and allow his MPs to vote their conscience on moral issues, issues that many of their constituents feel very strongly about.”

“Although we are saddened that some pro-life candidates were defeated, the pro-life movement should be encouraged by the fact that a strong pro-life presence in the House of Commons will remain,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, CLC National Organizer. “We will continue to work with them to ensure that this government is held accountable for the legislative decisions it makes.”

Campaign Life Coalition appreciates all those individual candidates who upheld their pro-life principles in their campaigns representing the Conservatives Party, the Christian Heritage Party, and those running as independents.
