Bev Oda does an “end-run” around Canada’s Maternal Health Plan to give Planned Parenthood the cash they want says Campaign Life Coalition
TORONTO, Sept. 26, 2011 –After a leaked report Thursday morning indicated that Canada was about to fund the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), the Canadian government has confirmed that they awarded a grant late Thursday to the world’s largest promoter of abortion.
Bev Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, who had pushed for Planned Parenthood funding at the time of the presentation of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Maternal Health Plan in 2010, made the announcement. The Prime Minister said that the plan would not include abortion services.
“This is a despicable change of direction by the government. Women in developing countries deserve health care for themselves and their babies, not the machinations of an organization whose role is to promote and carry out the killing of their children.” said Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC). “Six million dollars of Canadian taxpayers’ money would go a long way to saving the lives of mothers and babies in Third World Countries.”
“With Bev Oda’s ties to this organization (IPPF), she should have never been appointed to this position. So much for Harper’s so called hidden pro-life agenda,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, National Organizer of CLC.
Campaign Life Coalition urges Canadians to contact Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Bev Oda’s office stating their objections to this action and ask for the funding decision to be reversed.
