Today the Federal government begins discussion on the most serious moral debate of our times. Will Canada chose the path of protecting the sanctity of human life or will we go down the dark road of scientific experimentation which destroys human life? "The legislation offers some very valid protections such as the ban on cloning and the regulations regarding in vitro fertilization", says Jim Hughes, National President of Campaign Life Coalition. "The recommendations regarding the extraction of stem cells from human embryos, a procedure which kills the embryo, can never be condoned." He continued, "The field of research involving adult stem cells provides promise for those suffering from disease and this research does not take a human life in the process," Mr. Hughes says. "Members of Parliament will begin a long debate on this legislation and a free vote is absolutely essential", says Karen Murawsky, Director of Campaign Life's Public Affairs office in Ottawa. "CLC will be watching the progress of this debate and will continue our lobbying effort to ensure justice and protection for the smallest member of the human family", she said. Campaign Life Coalition urges the Members of Parliament to prepare themselves for this debate by being well informed and properly disposed to take upon themselves the awesome responsibility of making far reaching decisions which will affect the lives of human beings. This legislation could also open the door to "the new dark age of perverted science" which Sir Winston Churchill warned us about in 1945.
