WORLD MARCH OF WOMEN 2000

Letter from Cardinal Aloysius Ambrozic to his priests May 9, 2000

Reverend and Dear Father,

I enclose for your information a letter (excerpts below) being sent to Development and Peace today, signed by Terry Thompson as executive director of ShareLife, on behalf of the trustees and members of the advisory board. This letter is being sent with my complete agreement and support.

Many of our clergy and laity have queried the involvement of Development and Peace, one of ShareLife's funded agencies, in the International March of Women. The association of D&P with this group is indeed unfortunate and we need to make a clear and definite statement to disassociate our archdiocese with this movement through D&P and I wanted you to know of this statement as soon as possible.

It hardly needs to be said that this archdiocese has always been strongly opposed to abortion; ShareLife is one of the continuing and visible signs of our dedication to life and our faith in action. No one should think otherwise and I urge you to clarify this in your parishes and associated groups should the need arise.

Yours in Christ,
Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic
Archbishop of Toronto
