The following resolution was passed on June 10 at the CWL Convention in Surrey, B.C.

BCOO-05 The World March of Women 2000
Whereas, The Catholic Women's League of Canada adheres strictly to the teachings of the Catholic Church in matters of faith and morals and after having reviewed the demands of the National and International groups found some of them directly opposed to Catholic teachings, and
Whereas, The sponsorship of the World March of Women 2000 by the Catholic Women's League, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace could be interpreted as complete support of the aforementioned demands which are ambiguous and offensive; and
Whereas, The decision of the National Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada to support this "March" could be perceived as being in direct opposition to the guidelines of the National Policy and Procedure which clearly states that it would be inappropriate for the Catholic Women's League to join with other groups whose policies are opposed to Catholic teaching; therefore be it
Resolved, That members of the B.C. & Yukon Provincial Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada, assembled in 53rd Annual convention request the National Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada to review and reverse their decision to support the World March of Women 2000 as long as it promotes issues which are contrary to teachings of the Catholic Church, and be if further
Resolved, That the National Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada request the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace to review and reverse their decision to support the World March of Women 2000; and be it further
Resolved, That the National Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada implement means other than the World March of Women 2000 to promote the elimination of poverty and violence against women; and be it further
Resolved, That this resolution be forwarded to the National Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada for consideration at their 2000 National convention.
