STATEMENT OF ST. CATHERINES CWL WORLD MARCH OF WOMEN 2000 The following statement was approved at the diocesan presidents' meeting and was read publicly at the 42nd Annual Convention of St. Catharines Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women's League on Wednesday, May 31, 2000. The statement is to be forwarded to the Provincial Council: "As Catholics we have been taught that life is sacred. Life begins at conception and ends at natural death. In light of this teaching, we, the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Women's League of Canada will not participate in the March of Women 2000. The two main objectives of the March, violence and poverty are already addressed in all parts of the Diocese through our individual councils. We, the Diocesan Council, ask that each council please make every effort to attend the LIFE CHAIN the first Sunday of October. Plan and carry out an activity with your local Women's Shelter and plan a Celebration of Life on December 8, 2000. May we continue to pray and work for justice and peace for all of God's people." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The above information can be verified by telephoning Nancy Winslow (905) 563-7096 or Elise Mathie (905) 684-7569. We have prepared the attached petition and are circulating it to C.W.L. Councils in the Diocese of St. Catharines. This petition may be useful to other C.W.L. members who wish to take some grass-roots action. Sincerely, Elise Mathie and Nancy Winslow Petition
