Archdiocese to Trustees: No gay pride flag

I’m pleased to report that Cardinal Thomas Collins has broken his silence about the motion that Toronto Catholic School Trustees will be voting on May 6th, regarding the flying of the homosexual Pride flag at all Catholic schools.

In a statement issued yesterday afternoon to the Trustees, the office of Cardinal Thomas Collins advised that the gay Pride flag is not appropriate for Catholic schools, stating:

“In that regard, the appropriate symbol that represents our faith, and the inclusion and acceptance of others, is the cross, which is visible at the entrance of every Catholic school. It is the primary symbol of our Christian faith: it draws us to contemplate the generous and sacrificial love of Jesus, as he lays down his life for all of us.”

The Archdiocesan statement doubled down, suggesting that besides the cross, the only other flag that is appropriate to fly at a Catholic school is that of the Canadian flag:

“Practically, we also know that there are any number of groups working to advocate for many diverse causes. For this reason, many school boards wisely fly only the Canadian flag out of a sense of equity for all.”

The guidance letter from the Archdiocese also attacked the false proposition being touted by gay-activists and dissident trustees that the only way to show compassion for persons who experience same-sex attraction is by embracing the Gay Pride symbol:

“There is a belief among some that unless one embraces secular symbols, one cannot be inclusive or accepting. This is simply not true.”

We pray this guidance against adopting the flag of homosexual political power will convince at least two more trustees to vote with the four faithful Catholics on the board, so that the motion gets defeated.  Six “no” votes are required for the motion to fail.

With that goal in mind, please take action immediately by phoning the four trustees who occasionally vote the right way in matters of faith and morals: Martino, Di Giorgio, D’Amico and Kennedy.  They are where our lobby efforts need to be focused.

Remind them that the Archdiocese of Toronto has issued a statement making it clear that trustees should vote against the gay Pride motion and that the cross adorning every school is the appropriate symbol to show inclusivity and compassion, not the rainbow flag. Here are their phone numbers:

Trustee Joseph Martino:   416-512-3401, [email protected]

Trustee Daniel Di Giorgio: 416-512-3410, [email protected]

Trustee Frank D'Amico:  416-512-3406, [email protected]

Trustee Angela Kennedy: 416-512-3411, [email protected]

After phoning them, send an email too.

Finally, please contact Cardinal Thomas Collins, by phone and by email, to express two points:

#1.  Thank him for the statement opposing the gay Pride flag’s use at Catholic schools.

#2.  Ask him to please issue another statement, today, indicating that if the TCDSB votes to support the gay Pride motion, that His Eminence will be forced to ban the board from using the name “Catholic”.  If the board falls into such apostasy, it will no longer be Catholic.
