Campaign Life Coalition calls for legislation to ban sex-selective abortions

Toronto, April 13, 2016 – The barbaric practice of sex-selective abortions has resurfaced in Canada after further evidence has been published proving that gendercide does indeed occur in Canadian hospitals and abortion facilities. Canadian politicians are struggling to reconcile their uncompromising support for abortion while condemning this type of abortion, which is so unabashedly discriminatory that even many “pro-choice” Canadians have joined in denouncing it. A prime example is shown by the recent comments of Ontario’s Health Minister Dr. Eric Hoskins, who condemned the practice.

“Minister Hoskins has said that he is ‘deeply disturbed’ by the growing practice of female gendercide in Canada. Will Hoskins put his money where his mouth is, and defund sex-selective abortions from the procedures covered by OHIP?” said Jim Hughes, President of Campaign Life Coalition. “If he’s truly disturbed by the killing of baby girls - just because they’re girls – then Hoskins shouldn’t hesitate to delist this type of abortion from provincial health insurance plans. Furthermore, every province’s Minister of Health should do the same.”

In 2014, MP Mark Warawa’s motion urging parliament to condemn sex-selective abortion was deemed non-votable, on trumped up grounds by a politically-correct parliamentary committee. That same year, more than 20,000 Canadians marched for life calling on parliament to end female gendercide. Former PM Stephen Harper refused to discuss this issue, while current PM Justin Trudeau defends this practice since it falls under his blind support for abortion access.

“This issue ought to help Canadians see that all abortions are discriminatory and unjust,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, CLC National Organizer. “If these unborn baby girls are not human beings, then what does it matter if parents choose to ‘terminate a pregnancy’? But if they are human beings, then any reason to end the life of a pre-born child, female or male should be ‘deeply disturbing’ to all Canadians.”

Campaign Life Coalition calls upon all levels of government to face reality regarding the ongoing practice of aborting baby girls because of their sex, and to back up their condemnation of gendercide with legislation.
