Internet Filtering Motion - Waterloo Region District School Board

April 18, 2016 @ 7:00pm
Where: 51 Ardelt Ave, Kitchener, ON N2C 2R5

If you are ratepayer in the Waterloo Region public school system, please attend the following meeting of the Waterloo Region District School Board and take a stand for parental rights in education!

Backgrounder

On February 8th ant 22nd, the Waterloo Region District School Board of Trustees held meetings to vote on two motions by pro-parental-rights Trustee Cindy Watson. The motions aimed to block students from being able to access internet pornography on school electronic devices, which would have been an important step in protecting children from an increasingly permissive, sexualized environment in our schools.  Unfortunately, these motions did not pass.

As a result, the substance of those motions has been re-worked and incorporated into a new Motion, co-sponsored by Trustee Watson and Trustee Natalie Waddell, that will be presented at the Board meeting on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

The following is the formal wording of the Motion to be made by Trustees Watson and Waddell at the April 18th Board Meeting:

"Be it resolved that the Waterloo Region District School Board request that the director of education develop an internet filtering policy,

"And that the board direct staff to purchase specialized filtering software with graduated filtering (for different grade levels) and multi language support, in addition to existing filtering, to filter out inappropriate content (including pornographic websites and their proxies) with an annual subscription for the ongoing monitoring and updates to the filtering protocol,

"And that a report be provided to the board by the end of May 2016 detailing the implementation plan and communication plan prior to its implementation."

Take action now!
