What is Homosexuality?

Campaign Life Coalition aligns itself with truths from biology, the findings from social sciences, and the teachings of the world’s major monotheistic religions when it comes to homosexuality.

To understand homosexuality, one must first understand the purpose of sexuality and its proper expression between a male and female within marriage. Marriage is the indissoluble union of one man and one woman for the primary purpose of the procreation and education of children. Sexual powers of procreation are morally exercised only within a valid marriage. Children flourish best within the context of a stable home environment where mother and father provide for them, are present in their lives, teach them about the meaning of being male and female and about the complementarity between the two sexes, and ultimately, teach them about what it means to be human. Marriage, along with the family that results from it, is the foundational pillar of society.

From a purely biological perspective, two persons of the same sex cannot achieve a true sexual union since their genitalia are incompatible by nature. From a moral perspective, the world’s three major monotheistic religions, Judaism, Islam, and Christianity, univocally condemn homosexual acts.

  • Judaism: “If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.” - Leviticus 20:13
  • Islam: “If two men commit a lewd act [unlawful sexual intercourse], punish them both.” - Quran, al-Nisā’: 16
  • Christianity: “Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites... will inherit the kingdom of God.” - 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

The Catholic Church, basing itself on Sacred Scripture, teaches that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” The Catechism of the Catholic Church states about homosexual acts: “They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity.” The Catholic Church furthermore teaches that the homosexual inclination is also “objectively disordered,” since sexual attraction was created by God for the purpose of drawing a man and a woman together to become husband and wife in marriage. As the pro-homosexual British Royal College of Psychiatrists declared in 2014, the homosexual inclination is not innate but is determined by a number of factors, including “biological and postnatal environmental factors.” As Dutch psychologist Dr. Gerard van den Aardweg noted in 2018: “This trait [the same-sex inclination] is not inborn, but the effect of upbringing, parent-child interactions and habit formation.” This means that no one is “born gay” – namely, no one is created by God with an innate sexual inclination for persons of the same sex.

God, not man, is the creator of marriage. No human authority has the power to make marriage into something different from what God has already made it to be: its purpose is the union of the spouses and the procreation and formation of children. Because of this, there can be no such reality as marriage between two people of the same sex. It is an impossibility in light of the way God created marriage.

The state has a vested interest in upholding male-female marriage since the family that arises from this union is the building block of society. When marriage is undermined, such as through redefinition to include other arrangements outside of male-female partnerships, the family suffers. When the family suffers, society suffers. "As the family goes, so goes the nation, and so goes the whole world in which we live," stated Pope John Paul II in a 1986 homily delivered in Perth, Australia.

What's best for children

The pro-family movement is especially concerned with the rise of homosexual “marriage” because children flourish best with both a father and mother in a stable relationship and these same-sex partnerships deprive children of this ideal. The social sciences have already made it clear that children fare better in many respects when raised by a mother and a father than when raised by two people of the same sex. One study showed that children raised by two people of the same sex when compared to children raised by a mother and a father were more likely to experience the following:

  • poor educational attainment
  • overall lower levels of happiness, mental and physical health
  • impulsive behaviour
  • depression (by large margins)
  • thoughts of suicide (significantly)
  • sexual molestation

At the same time, various studies have shown that the human family composed of one man united to one woman in a lifelong union of marriage is the most conducive environment for the flourishing of children. Every child deserves a mother and a father and to be raised in a loving home where each will reach their full potential.

Who is really getting hurt?

The tragically disproportionate rate of sexually transmitted diseases (often fatal ones such as AIDS, anal cancer, Hep B&C), serious health problems and shortened life span inherent in the gay lifestyle is one reason why the State should have no interest in encouraging homosexual unions or behaviour.

While Christians and others of various faith traditions oppose all forms of violence or unjust discrimination against same-sex attracted persons, by the same token, they love same-sex attracted persons enough to warn them of the destructive health consequences endemic to the homosexual lifestyle.

Unfortunately, many young men, women and even teens are being lied to about the homosexual lifestyle. They are told it is just as healthy as heterosexual relationships. That's the big lie at the heart of the homosexual agenda. Those who enter into the homosexual lifestyle have a higher risk of fatal diseases, a plethora of serious infections and other health risks, domestic partner abuse, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, etc.  Incredibly, militant homosexual activists and their apologists in the mainstream media disingenuously blame these problems (even the disproportionate rates of fatal disease) on "homophobia". They do this to deflect from the reality that these health problems are endemic to, and a result of the homosexual lifestyle itself.
