Listing of candidate debates for Ontario election

Published: May 27, 2014

Campaign Life Coalition is working on electing pro-Life candidates during the June 12, 2014 Ontario election. We need your help to qualify candidates.

Provincial legislators don't have the authority to pass direct laws to protect preborn children from the violence of abortion. That is federal jurisdiction. However, as members of provincial parliament they have the authority to pass laws and regulations which would indirectly save lives, reduce the annual number of abortions (30,000 to 50,000 in Ontario), and spare women the trauma and remorse usually associated with abortion-choice.  One example is defunding abortion so that taxpayer dollars are not diverted to this medically unnecessary procedure. In other jurisdictions, defunding has been proven to be the most effective type of incremental legislation to reduce the number of abortions.

Currently, $30- $50 million dollars are being funneled away from genuine healthcare needs, to pay instead for elective abortions committed for reasons of convenience as a back-up birth control method.  And that’s only the cost of the procedure. The annual cost of abortion-complications, post-traumatic stress disorder, a 6X increased risk for suicide and 30% increased risk for breast cancer, annually adds hundreds of millions of dollars more.

Other types of laws that Ontario MPPs can pass include informed consent, cooling off periods, parental notification laws and imposing hospital-grade medical standards onto private abortion facilities.

To learn where candidates stand, CLC sends out candidate questionnaires so we can then share this info with voters in the riding.  We have a problem though. Due to party leaders and their bureaucrats ordering candidates not to answer questionnaires, many are refusing to reveal where they stand. You can help us circumvent this obstacle by attending your local, all-candidate meetings, asking a question and then reporting the response back to CLC.  There’s no guarantee you will be selected to ask a question, but if you arrive early and try getting a seat towards the front, that may increase your chances.

Questions you can ask Candidates at the meetings

1.      Do you support a woman’s choice to have an abortionist kill the child in her womb?

2.      Whereas Ontario is experiencing massive doctor and nurse shortages, huge waiting lists for urgent services like the treatment of child autism, hip and knee replacements, all due to the fact that the health care system is cash-starved; and whereas $30-$50 million dollars of taxpayer money is being annually funneled away from these genunine healthcare needs in order to pay for medically unnecessary, elective abortions which area committed for reasons of convenience, as a backup birth control method; if elected will you support measures to stop funding medically unnecessary abortions with taxpayer money?

3.      Many pro-choice advocates claim that a human being does not come into existence until after they fully exit the birth canal. Other Canadians take the view that the preponderance of modern medical science supports the belief that a human being, with its own unique DNA, that is separate from the life of the mother and of the father, comes into existence at the time of conception.  I’d like to ask each candidate: at which of these points do you believe a human being comes into existence?
