Spotlight on a local pro-family group

Campaign Life Coalition is pleased to feature a committed pro-family group, Durham Concerned Parents, which has shown outstanding solidarity in its efforts to combat the overly-explicit, pedophile-influenced Sex-Ed curriculum being forced on Ontario school children by the Wynne Liberal government. We congratulate Durham Concerned Parents on its ongoing protest rallies and the foresight which its work demonstrates in defending parental rights in education and children’s moral and psychological well-being:

Durham Concerned Parents

On Feb. 22, 2014, Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) presented a forum focusing on Life and Family, including the topic, “Ontario’s Sex-Ed coming to a school near you.” Jack Fonseca, from CLC, warned the audience of the imminent return of this dangerous program. As well, Teresa Pierre, President of Parents as First Educators (PAFE), came to Whitby in 2014, for an evening session exposing the threats of the Liberal’s Sex-Ed agenda. Maritza Sialer, area parent and founding member of Durham Concerned Parents, recalls the events: “Following the PAFE session, I knew in my heart that I could not keep silent, either for my own children or for anyone else’s, and I committed myself to remain active on this issue. In 2015, I organized a Sex-Ed curriculum information night for parents in Whitby, which was followed by two protests on May 3 and 7 in Oshawa, and one on June 5th in Whitby, at (now-former) MPP Christine Elliot’s office.”

Now, as of February 2016, one year has passed since the dire warnings about the manipulatively-crafted Sex-Ed curriculum become a reality with the document’s release by the Wynne Liberals.

Motivated by those early presentations of CLC and PAFE, Durham Concerned Parents was formed as a parents’ group in August 2015 and, by September 2nd, they joined the Provincial Mini-Rally Protest organized by CLC against the Wynne Sex-Ed program, where 80 people protested outside now-former MPP Christine Elliott’s office. Following this, Durham Concerned Parents organized the “Durham Car Rally” from Pickering to Oshawa, finishing at the Islamic Pickering Center. In order to support the Thorncliffe Parents of Toronto, they had a “One day, no school” protest on Sept. 29 in two locations: Ajax and Whitby. The group had the participation of 25 students, from both Catholic and Public schools. Half of the students stayed at home and the others attended an “open classroom” at the Oshawa location.

Recently, Jennifer Lee, a mother from the provincial riding of Ajax-Pickering, has joined Durham Concerned Parents. Mrs. Lee organized a protest, with the assistance of PAFE, on February 2, 2016 at MPP Joe Dickson’s office in Ajax. “I am impressed with the success of our protest today,” Mrs. Lee stated. “There were 20 people here from all walks of life, sincerely making an appeal to MPP Joe Dickson and Premier Kathleen Wynne to stop the Sex-Ed Curriculum. I hope that it shows Premier Wynne that we are serious about protecting our children and our parental rights, and that we are not backing down.”

On February 5th and 8th, Durham Concerned Parents from the provincial riding of Whitby-Oshawa again braved the wind and the cold to protest the inappropriate Sex-Ed curriculum being introduced into Ontario schools. These protests were held from 12- 2 pm, at the intersection of Baldwin St. & Taunton Rd., near the by-election campaign office of PC Lorne Coe. The demonstration was enthusiastically supported by passers-by at this very busy intersection in Whitby. Concerning these efforts, a member of Durham Concerned Parents from Oshawa, a Mr. Mueller, said the following: “This protest highlighted the public and political imperative to nurture and protect childhood development. The Sex-Ed Curriculum is a fundamental social issue that concerns all citizens in Ontario and should be rigorously debated in this (by-election).”

Many indicators reveal the unpopularity of the Sex-Ed curriculum with parents. For example, between February and September of 2015, more than 200,000 parents in Ontario signed a petition asking specifically for the withdrawal of the Sex-Ed portion of the overall Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum; the petition was presented on September 20, 2015 to the Ontario Legislative Assembly (ONLA). Also, an increasing number of parents are now homeschooling their children and a higher number of private schools have been opened across the province, according to the Globe & Mail.

“The Sex-Ed Curriculum doesn’t account for the neurological development of the brain, (nor does it) adequately warn about the real risks of some sexual behaviours and STDs, just to mention some deficiencies. This is not about sexual health, but it’s about sexual freedom without limits, boundaries or consequences,” said Mrs. Sialer. “Parents agree that the curriculum needed to be updated in (relation to) sexting and STDs. However, (the curriculum) only touches briefly on the sexting and minimizes the risks associated with oral and anal intercourse."

The following are examples of what young children will be taught:

Grade 3, age 8: “Gender identity” Theory, i.e. “boys can be girls and vice-versa” (2015, p.123 and 131 H&PE)

Grade 6, age 11: Encourage masturbation, i.e. “masturbate to know your body” (2015, p.175 H&PE)

Grade 7, age 12: Anal intercourse, Oral & vaginal sex, i.e. “If you feel you’re ready use a condom” (2015, p. 196 H&PE)

Grade 8, age 13: Make a personal “sexual plan” (2015, p. 215-216 H&PE)
