End Sex-Selective Abortion

Just over one year ago, I wrote to you about a Bill that would help protect many preborn baby girls from being aborted. It’s called the “Sex Selective Abortion Act” or Bill C-233. It was introduced in February of 2020 by Ms. Cathay Wagantall, the pro-life Member of Parliament for Yorkton-Melville, Saskatchewan.

We are finally getting close to a vote on this life-saving Bill, which means we need your help once again! In advance of a Second Reading vote, which could take place any day now, we want to encourage you to sign an official House of Commons E-Petition to demonstrate your support.

Even if you have already signed our online CLC petition in support of this Bill, we would ask you to also sign the House of Commons E-Petition before the April 10th deadline. This E-Petition will be officially presented in Parliament and could help exert considerable pressure on MPs.

Name, I know you agree with me that NO CHILD should suffer the cruel fate of abortion. But there is a particular horror in knowing that many Canadian children are targetted for killing just because they are girls. How barbaric is that?! Banning sex-selective abortion should be a no-brainer for our government. But somehow our politicians don’t get it.

That’s why I’m asking you to come alongside Ms. Cathay Wagantall and show your support for her pro-life Bill. Bill C-233 needs our support. It would eliminate the practice of targetting baby girls for abortion just because they’re girls, by making it illegal to kill unborn children based on their sex.

MP Cathay Wagantall

While our nation has discarded every protection for the most vulnerable among us – our preborn children – it continues to boast of its commitment to equality between the sexes. In fact, at the recent Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations, Ms. Maryam Monsef, Canada’s Minister of Women, announced: “Our government will continue to work with strong feminists to create one million jobs and to improve the health and safety outcomes for all women... While addressing inequalities here in Canada, we recognize the need to support the global efforts as well.”

Those words sound very sincere and serious, yet they ring hollow when compared to the Trudeau government’s actual track record on women’s rights.

According to a disturbing 2017 report in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Canada, there are literally thousands of girls “missing” from our nation. In a certain segment of one Ontario immigrant community, 240 boys are born for every 100 girls. In a similar segment of another Ontario immigrant community, the ratio is 163 to 100. This is far above the natural average ratio of 105 to 100.

Nevertheless, our government has done nothing to address this affront to women’s rights.

If Canada permits the selective killing of women before they are born, how can the Canadian government claim to be an international advocate for women’s rights? If women don’t have an equal right to be born – if equality doesn’t begin in the wombthen all the politically-correct “rights” talk is meaningless sloganeering.

That’s why we need Bill C-233 (the “Sex Selective Abortion Act”) to pass. And with your signature on the House of Commons E-Petition, we can help this Bill pass!

We wholeheartedly agree with Ms. Wagantall. “It’s a girl” should never be a death sentence!

Ms. Wagantall said this at the time she launched her Bill: “Eighty-four percent of Canadians are against sex selective abortion. Legislators have the responsibility to ensure that it is prohibited by law. Sex selective abortion is antithetical to our commitment to equality and needs to be prohibited as an unacceptable practice... Our silence condones and possibly perpetuates the practice of sex selection... Canada must act now to condemn this practice and to make it apparent to all that Canada values women and equality...”

Please show your support for Bill C-233 by signing the official House of Commons E-Petition before the deadline of April 10th. It’s quick, easy, and secure.

Also, be sure to ask your family, friends, and church family to get on board. Let’s raise our voices for the voiceless!

CLC will never stop fighting the battle against abortion until every single child in the womb is protected under Canadian law from the moment of conception until birth.

God bless.

Yours for Life,

David Cooke
