Don't Force Doctors to Kill

Have you heard about pro-life MP Kelly Block’s private member’s Bill C-268, “An Act to amend the Criminal Code (intimidation of health care professionals)”? This Bill creates a much-needed hedge of protection around doctors, nurses, and other health care workers who conscientiously refuse to participate in euthanizing their patients.

Euthanasia and assisted suicide have been legal in Canada since 2016 through the Trudeau government’s “MAiD service” (short for “Medical Assistance in Dying”). This sweet-sounding euphemism disguises a horrific philosophy that effectively designates some of our fellow humans as being “life unworthy of life”.

Since euthanasia has been not only legalized but decreed an essential health care service, health care workers are now being told they are obligated to provide it – or, at the very least, provide referrals for it. This has placed many medical professionals in conflict with their employers and governing bodies.

Conscientious, traditionally-minded doctors and nurses consider euthanasia to be the very antithesis of good health care. In fact, they consider it to be medical murder.

According to the World Medical Association, “No physician should be forced to participate in euthanasia or assisted suicide, nor should any physician be obliged to make referral decisions to this end.”

According to the Hippocratic Oath, which represents traditional standard of medical ethics, doctors pledge: “I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect.”

According to the Bible, “Thou shalt not kill.”

This is why we need to push Parliament to pass the conscience protection Bill C-268.

Bill C-268 is especially urgent in light of the Trudeau government’s recent expansion of their diabolical “MAiD service” under Bill C-7, which designates the disabled and depressed as “candidates” for killing.

Our principled, ethical, life-affirming doctors and nurses are perhaps our final line of defence!

Bill C-268 would rightly make it illegal to coerce or intimidate medical professionals into administering a lethal injection. It would also make it illegal to coerce or intimidate them into referring their patients to another professional who has no qualms about killing. As well, hospitals, clinics, and other health care employers would be forbidden from discriminating against conscientious objectors in their hiring practices.

Bill C-268 allows our best doctors and nurses to practice their healing craft without fear of discrimination or reprisals for not toeing the Left’s deadly ideological line.

This common-sense Bill upholds the democratic and constitutional values near and dear to the hearts of Canadians, championing freedom of conscience and freedom of religion. It is a salve to slow the cancerous spread of the culture of death in this nation.

Bill C-268 also provides another very practical benefit to you and me: It protects our health care choices, allowing us the option to access trustworthy doctors, nurses, and other health care workers who expressly refuse to kill their patients! Isn’t that worth fighting for?

Without Bill C-268, our once-venerable Canadian health care system will degenerate even further into a cold, cruel, and cost-driven enterprise, where patients’ lives are expendable, and where the best doctors and nurses (and medical students) are pushed out.

Is that what we really want? We know it has already started. Doctors have already quit over pressure to euthanize.

Please join me in signing our online petition in support of MP Kelly Block’s Bill C-268. This petition will be used to lobby our MPs and our Canadian Minister of Justice, David Lametti. We want to show them the level of popular support that exists for our conscientious doctors, nurses, and other health care workers.

The more signatures we get, the stronger our message will be, and the more likely we are to see Bill C-268 pass into law.

In the words of Tommy Douglas, Baptist minister, MP, seventh Premier of Saskatchewan, and founder of our Canadian health care system: “Courage, my friends; ‘tis not too late to build a better world.”

God bless.

Yours for Life,

David Cooke
