CLC Voter's Guide to the UCP AGM

I'm pleased to share Campaign Life Coalition's Voter's Guide to the United Conservative Party of Alberta AGM, which begins this afternoon, November 28th, and concludes November 30th.

If you're an eligible voting member, and registered as an AGM delegate, you can help us to pass pro-life and pro-family policies, and to elect a slate of socially-conservative Board of Director candidates.

See our Voter Guide recommendations below, in three parts for policy votes, governance votes, and UCP Board elections.

Part A) Vote YES to these Policy Proposals

Policy voting will take place Saturday, November 29th from 1:30 PM - 5:00 PM.

We recommend voting YES to the twelve policy proposals listed below, all of which may have some positive impact, even if only indirectly, on CLC's pro-life, pro-family and pro-religious freedom mission.

#1: Add a new mission statement to protect liberty, families, property rights.

#3: Allow only Canadian, Alberta or Muncipal flags to be flown on government buildings and tax-funded property.
CLC NOTE: This will have the positive effect of banning LGBT Pride flags!

#5: Require all third-party resource materials related to gender identity, sexual orientation, or human sexuality being used in schools be made available to parents upon request.
CLC NOTE: If parents know which external sex activists are being allowed into the school, they can better mobilize resistance.

#11: Abandon/rescind net-zero laws, regulations, policies and agreements.
CLC NOTE: Climate change alarmism is causing younger generations to fear having children and/or viewing babies as a carbon footprint "threat to the planet". This alarmism fuels greater recourse to abortion as a "solution".

#12: Promote responsible fiscal management, protect individual freedoms, and support policies that strengthen families....

#13: Oppose attempts by the Federal government to regulate or legislate on industrial carbon dioxide emissions.
CLC NOTE: See #11's note.

#19: Review the use of DEI programs and consultants in Alberta's education system to ensure that instructional practices remain politically neutral... and focused on academic excellence.
CLC NOTE: Although we'd prefer this policy to call for immediate termination of all DEI programs, a review could lead to that goal.

#20: Prohibit vaccination from being used as condition of employment or membership in provincially-funded institutions.
CLC NOTE: Many vaccines are derived from and/or tested using aborted baby fetal cells. This policy would protect pro-life Albertans from being forced to violate their consciences.

#21: Parents will receive full disclosure of their children's participation in school facilitated extracurricular groups.
CLC NOTE: This aims to require schools to notify parents if their child joins a Gay Straight Alliance Club.

#24: Ensure that lab grown meat will not be sold in Alberta without proper identification and clear labelling.
CLC NOTE: It is documented that a human cell line (HEK-293) which was derived from an aborted fetus, is commonly used in the research, testing and production process of lab grown meat. This would be seen as unethical by many pro-life Albertans.

#27: Defend freedom of assembly by declaring all places of Worship and their outreach as Essential Services.

#29: Cease public funding for third-trimester abortions, except in cases where the physical health of the mother is at serious risk.
CLC NOTE: We would support this policy on the conditional basis that one or more delegates first request an amendment to make the policy read that public funding should cease for "all abortions". We wish to avoid sending the message, albeit indirectly, that it is ethical to fund abortions with taxpayer money prior to some arbitrary gestational age. Even if this resolution passes and is taken up by the government in future, CLC will attempt to amend any proposed legislation to extend to all abortions.

You will notice that CLC has not given a recommendation for or against the other 24 policy proposals. That's because they do not fall within CLC's mandate.

While many of those proposals may be worthy and valuable in their own right, delegates must use their discretion to decide how to vote on those 24 other proposals.

Part B) Vote YES to these Governance Resolutions

Governance debate and voting will take place Friday, November 28 from 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM.

We recommend voting YES to the eight governance resolutions listed below.

#2: The Association and Party will shall adhere to certain all constitutional documents ratified and maintained by the Members.
CLC NOTE: Making the party more accountable to members is good, and helps to prevent corruption from entering in.

#3: UCP Board Directors and Officers must disclose any affiliations they have with domestic or foreign political entities, other political parties or foreign public interest organizations.

#6: Reduce the number of candidate appointments the Leader can make, from the current four (4) down to two (2).
CLC NOTE: This is a move in the right direction, in the interest of grassroots democracy where members get to vote for the candidate of their choice.

#7: Add a clause to the UCP constitution empowering the UCP Secretary to consolidate and post all resolutions passed at the AGM, while forbidding the Secretary from altering the intent of any resolution.

#8: Require members who stand for election as a UCP Director or as a candidate, to not have held a membership in another registered provincial political party in Alberta in the 24 consecutive months prior to the election.
CLC NOTE: This helps prevent left-wing, anti-life radicals from infiltrating the party.

#9: The Party Board may modify the Rules as necessary. where such modification is necessary and supported by a two-thirds majority vote of Party Board Directors present at a duly convened meeting of the Party Board.
CLC NOTE: This resolution helps curtail the party's ability to unjustly disqualify or block candidates .

#10: Requires in-person voting at all UCP AGMs, and eliminates remote, online voting.
CLC NOTE: This is a good resolution because remote and online voting carries a greater risk of fraud.

#16: Constituency Association Directors and candidates shall disclose any affiliations with domestic or foreign political entities, other political parties or foreign public interest organizations .

Any governance proposal numbers not listed above have been deemed to not fall within CLC's mandate, and therefore, we will not comment on them one way or another. Delegates should use their own discretion.
