SUMMARY REPORT - Nationwide Bill C-9 protests

Reports are in from our Bill C-9 protest leaders, and the results were impressive!

Overwhelmingly, they described the local protests in this nationwide initiative as “successful”, “joyful” and “spirit-led”.

Our May 1st protest against Bill C-9 saw a powerful mobilization in 48 locations, across nine provinces.

From Vancouver to Whitehorse to Mississauga to Newfoundland, hundreds of Christians demonstrated outside the constituency offices of 48 Liberal MPs to make a specific demand… and deliver a warning.

I’ll start with the warning, which was…

If Bill C-9 becomes law, Liberal MPs will be blamed for it by their constituents, and there will be serious backlash at the ballot box in the next election.

What demand was made by protestors?

They presented a letter at each location asking the MP to speak to Liberal leader Mark Carney and urge him to lean on the 81 Liberal-appointed senators to bury bill C-9, if they wish to avoid voter backlash.

Since those Senators owe their $192,700 salaries to the Liberal Party, and it’s clear they’re aligned ideologically with the Liberal Party (otherwise they never would’ve been appointed), we know Carney has real influence over them.

The MP actually came outside at some rallies to listen to the demands of protesters. At others, their staff came out and listened to demonstrators express their grievances.

In many protest locations, our leaders reported overwhelming positive reactions from drivers and passersby.

It was not infrequent that a pedestrian would stop to ask about the signs, proclaim their solidarity with our cause, and then stay for the duration of the protest!

Our protest leader In Kitchener-Conestoga reported that the honks, thumbs up and shouts of support was almost continuous throughout the duration of the hour-long protest.

Clearly, Bill C-9 and its attack on free speech and religious freedom are not welcome.

Jocelyn, our leader in the New Brunswick riding of Fredericton-Oromocto where MP David Myles was elected for the Liberals, sent us a jubilant post-protest report.

I’ll share an excerpt of it below:

“All went well! Praise God! Counted 24 attendees at one point. Rain stopped when we left the car to get to the site. Started again when we left. People remarked about this. God is with us … looking down kindly on this cause!”

“Great support with honking horns and waves from drivers… A joy-filled prayerful spirit among attendees.”

“You all did an amazing job lighting a fire under us. Woke us up! Participants enjoyed themselves. One said that we should do this more often!”

In another New Brunswick riding, Moncton-Dieppe, where the Liberal MP is Ginette Petitpas Taylor, twenty religious freedom advocates witnessed in front her office.

They were joined by a Baptist pastor who read a statement out loud that enumerated the grave threats that Bill C-9 represents to free speech and all people of faith.

In the riding of Vancouver Fraserview--Burnaby South, protestors were blessed to be joined by a Catholic priest who ended up reading a letter of complaint out loud to MP Gregor Robertson’s two assistants, while all the demonstrators watched. See the pic below.

Even in Canada’s far north, in the riding of Yukon, a local Christian woman took on the job of protest Leader, created home-made signs, and led a small but dedicated band of peaceful protestors outside Liberal MP Brendan Hanley’s Whitehorse office.

In Quebec, a province that is already facing anti-religious persecution from provincial lawmakers, protests were held in the ridings of Gatineau, Sherbrooke, and Brome-Missisquoi.

Below are some of the protestors from Brome-Missisquoi, outside the office of Liberal MP Louis Villeneuve, sporting home-made signs... in both official languages!

I must not forget the local protest held at Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Nepean office where a total of 36 constituents rallied against his government’s totalitarian legislation.

Keep in mind that this was the middle of a work day, so it’s  impressive to get these kind of numbers.

Before closing off, I’ll share just a few more photos from different protest locations, for your enjoyment …

Please remember to pray for our efforts to stop Bill C-9 in the Senate.

Pray that these Liberal MP’s will “feel the heat” because of these protests and talk to Prime Minister Mark Carney about changing course on banning passages from the Bible, by leaning on the 81 Liberal-appointed senators to bury C-9.

We have already mobilized our supporters to send tens of thousands of emails, and thousands of phone calls to Liberal MPs.

With this “street action” added to those efforts, we pray it will help the Carney government rethink passing this malicious, anti-Christian bill into law.

Bill C-9 has passed second reading in the Senate, and will soon begin a senate committee study where witnesses for and against will testify to the committee members. Therefore, we must keep up direct pressure on the Senators too, via the following actions:

1. Phone the Senators and ask them defeat Bill C-9, using the call list here.

2. Email the Senators in your province, in less than a minute with a pre-scripted message, using our Action Alert Email software, right here.

Thank you for all the support you give Campaign Life Coalition. Truly you are our hands, our feet and our lips, allowing us to continue fighting this battle vigorously.
