Believe it or not, as we speak, Members of Parliament are debating whether or not to euthanize the mentally ill. The Liberals’ so-called “MAiD service” (medical assistance in dying), which kills thousands of physically disabled or sick Canadians every year, is set to expand to target the mentally ill next March.

With the introduction of Bill C-218, MPs are now being forced to reconsider that expansion. This bill from Conservative MP Tamara Jansen will SAVE the mentally ill from medical murder.

Did you know that, 77 years before Canada’s MAiD service was launched under Justin Trudeau, Germany had its own version? Germany’s program, called “Aktion T4”, was inspired by doctors who claimed to be deeply concerned with those suffering from mental illness.

Dr. Karl Brandt, Adolf Hitler’s personal physician, was appointed to provide medical oversight for the German program in September, 1939. Under his version of MAiD, doctors provided a “merciful death” by lethal injection or poison gas to ordinary German citizens who had a physical or mental disability. This early experiment in medical killing laid the groundwork for the “final solution”, which would later undertake to exterminate the Jewish people.

Dr. Brandt was originally inspired by Dr. Alfred Hoche, a psychiatrist who worked with the mentally ill and who created a classification system for mental illness in 1920s Germany. Dr. Hoche argued in favour of euthanasia for the mentally ill, believing this was in their own, as well as society’s, best interests.

Dr. Brandt took Dr. Hoche’s ideas and “ethics”, and began killing those who were physically and mentally ill, with the full approval of the German government.

It is interesting that we can trace the roots of the entire Nazi killing machine to a misguided, godless “ethical” concern to provide a “merciful” death for those suffering from mental illness. That is a fact of history.

So, why would we, here in Canada today, ever give a moment’s thought to legalize the killing of the mentally ill? Why would our elected representatives ever want to enact such a horror?

Unfortunately, this has already happened. MAiD for the mentally ill was already enacted in 2021, and is scheduled to begin on March 17th, 2027.

To stop this existing law from going into effect, we need to demand our MPs pass Bill C-218. This bill would counteract a portion of the current MAiD law and save the mentally ill from euthanasia. This bill will be voted on October 7th, which means our MPs need to hear from us right now!

After Hitler’s Nazi regime was defeated in 1945, Dr. Brandt was tried for war crimes in Nuremberg. One of the charges brought against him was: “planning and performing the mass murder of prisoners of war and civilians of occupied countries, stigmatized as aged, insane, incurably ill, deformed, and so on, by gas, lethal injections, and diverse other means in nursing homes, hospitals, and asylums during the Euthanasia Program and participating in the mass murder of concentration camp inmates.”

For this crime, Dr. Brandt was found guilty and was executed by hanging.

When we consider the German Aktion T4 program and Canada’s own MAiD program, we see many similarities. The same rationale of providing a “merciful death” is used in both cases. In both cases, the aged, insane, and incurably ill are stigmatized as “killable” and disposable. In both cases, the killing is done in nursing homes, hospitals, and hospices.

However, in Canada, there is the much-lauded requirement of “consent of the patient”, which was not required in Germany. This is how the Liberals claim they have the “moral high ground”. But can one legitimately consent to be murdered? Does consent ever justify a murder? And, isn’t it true that consent can be manipulated and forced?

And if we’re talking about those struggling with mental illness, whose thinking is distorted and confused, how can we imagine they could provide a clear-minded, informed consent?

The recent MAiD killing of Brigitte Stegemann, who was allegedly euthanized against her will, calls into question the ethical legitimacy of “consent”. Her family accuses medical personnel of coercing her consent and killing her against her will.

We need to stand up against the culture of death that has begun to take root in Canada through the Trudeau MAiD service. The killing has already gotten out of control, with more deaths by MAiD in Canada (16,499 in 2024) than deaths by guns in the whole of the US in the same year (15,364).

Where this killing may one day take us is too horrific to imagine! History is known to repeat itself.

Help us to put the brakes on MAiD by calling on MPs to pass Bill C-218. With God’s help, let’s save the mentally ill from being the next victims of our state-sanctioned Canadian killing machine.
