Here are the key dates for New Brunswick's 2026 municipal (local government) elections and District Education Council (school board) elections, administered by Elections New Brunswick. These province-wide elections occur simultaneously on the same day.
Election Day

Monday, May 11, 2026: Election Day (polls open 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.). Voters elect mayors, councillors, rural district advisory committee representatives (where applicable), and District Education Council representatives.
Nomination Period

Monday, March 23, 2026: Nominations open (beginning of the nomination period). Notice of election is also published on this date.

Friday, April 10, 2026 (2:00 p.m.): Nominations close.
Candidate Withdrawal

Monday, April 13, 2026 (5:00 p.m.): Deadline for candidates to withdraw.
Voting Opportunities

Saturday, May 2, 2026 and Monday, May 4, 2026 (10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.): Advance polling days.

Starting around April 20, 2026 (once ballots are printed): Returning office voting becomes available (open 6 days a week province-wide, up to and including Election Day). Any returning office can serve eligible electors.

Special ballot applications are accepted starting March 23, 2026, with the final return deadline on Election Day (8:00 p.m.).

Wednesday, May 13, 2026: Declaration Day (official declaration of elected candidates).
