Bubble zones about silencing pro-lifers, not about protecting women, says Campaign Life Coalition

Toronto, Oct 4, 2017 – In response to today’s introduction of ‘safe access zone’ legislation by Attorney General Yasir Naqvi in a joint press conference with Planned Parenthood, Campaign Life Coalition vows to stand together with Ontarians in opposing this direct attack on their freedom of speech, expression and assembly.

“Bubble zone legislation isn’t about protecting women and abortion staff workers from violence, because there is no evidence of such violence. This is about silencing peaceful pro-life witnessing and preventing women from having access to alternatives”, said Jim Hughes, National President, Campaign Life Coalition

In August, in a consultation with the Ministry of Attorney General, Campaign Life Coalition stated that this legislation is trying to solve a problem that simply doesn’t exist, and that the government is trying to use a non-existing ‘abortion right’, to trample over genuine rights that are protected by our Charter of Rights: speech, expression, assembly.

“This is another attempt by the Wynne government to do the abortion industry’s dirty works, by preventing people who care deeply about women and their pre-born children from providing them help and support,” said Mary Ellen Douglas, Ontario President, Campaign Life Coalition.

Campaign Life Coalition urges all MPPs to stand up for the freedom of speech of all Ontarians, and to not cave to the abortion industry’s demands.
