On the Assassination of Pro-Life Advocate Charlie Kirk
We at Campaign Life Coalition are deeply grieved by the assassination of 31-year-old Charlie Kirk, a U.S. conservative political activist who was a deeply committed Christian, husband, and father, as well as an outspoken and articulate defender of preborn babies targeted for abortion.
“Charlie Kirk was a bright light who courageously challenged many of the darknesses of today by means of his strong faith in God, rational discourse, and his belief that the values of life and liberty were worth fighting for—and even dying for. He lived what he believed to the very end,” said Jeff Gunnarson, CLC’s National President.
While Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, which was instrumental in the re-election of Donald Trump in 2024, he will be remembered by the international pro-life movement as a zealous defender of the preborn.
“Charlie was a pro-life champion who fought hard to end abortion,” said Gunnarson. “He will always be remembered as a champion of life. His belief that every human being is made in the image of God led him to see everyone, including those in the womb, as sacred, unique, and endowed with rights—the first of which is the right to life.”
Gunnarson said that Saint Mother Teresa once called abortion the “greatest destroyer of peace today.” She added that if a “mother can murder her own child in her own womb, what is left for you and for me to kill each other?”
“Charlie understood the principle that violence in the womb leads to violence outside the womb—in our homes, streets, campuses, and cities,” said Gunnarson. “Sadly, this is what we are seeing today.”
“Let us pray for peace and beg God for a spirit of forgiveness for everyone reeling from this tragedy. Let us commend Charlie’s soul to God’s mercy and pray for his widow, Erika, and their two young children. Finally, let us find the courage to take up Charlie’s fallen flag and, inspired by his heroic example, continue working tirelessly to end the scourge of abortion.”
