CLC rating: Pro-transgender ideology
Rating Comments: On January 14, 2020, Councillor Allen voted to pass a reckless and draconain by-law that bans all forms of counseling that radical LGBT activists disingenuously define as "conversion therapy". The ban is likely to apply to all corporations, churches and non-profit associations within the Wood Buffalo Regional Municipality (including Fort McMurray). This totalitarian ban now makes it illegal for people who experience unwanted gender identity confusion or same-sex attraction from being able to procure either clinical psychotherapy or spirtual counseling to overcome their unwanted condition or to leave the transsexual/gay lifestyle.

During the January 14th meeting, Mr. Allen, who was a key proponent in advancing this ruthless pro-LGBT by-law, made a motion to further broaden the language of the ban to capture even more people in the LGBT dragnet (see Quotes tab). Allen was previously an Alberta PC provincial MLA but resigned from caucus in July 2013 after being arrested during a "sting" operation for soliciting a prostitute; he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Here are quotes from Mike Allen on various life and family issues:

Seeking to make the LGBT-enforcing language of the Conversion Therapy Ban by-law even more sweeping and constricting against people's freedom:  "He (Allen) asked (that) the bylaw remove the word 'minor' from Article 3.1 of the bylaw, and replace it with 'any person'. Allen said the bylaw should seek to protect (sic) every person the same way, regardless of an individual’s age. Also, Allen’s motion included a definition for 'conversion therapy' first outlined in Article 2.3. This would allow certain types of affirmative services for LGBTQ+ individuals." [MyMcMurray, 'Bylaw to ban conversion therapy passes Council', January 15, 2020]
