CLC rating: Pro-abortion
Rating Comments: Responding to a 2022 CBC survey, this MLA indicated explicit support for abortion.

In October 2020, MLA Joanasie piled on with a majority of fellow Members to unjustly eject their colleague, MLA Patterk Netser, from Nunavut's cabinet in retaliation for Netser's laudable pro-life statement on Facebook affirming that "all lives matter", including the lives of babies in the womb (see Votes tab).
Position: Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut

Votes, Surveys and Policy Decision Vote Score
CBC survey of Nunavut MLAs: Do you believe women should have access to abortion?
This Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) survey of all Nunavut MLAs was published on July 5, 2022 and was clearly motivated to shore up support for the continued killing of unborn children in Canada, as it was issued just days following the June 24, 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn the 1973 pro-abortion Roe vs. Wade decision.

CBC survey of Nunavut MLAs: Do you think the level of access to abortion in your constituency is adequate?
This Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) survey of all Nunavut MLAs was published on July 5, 2022 and was clearly motivated to shore up support for the continued killing of unborn children in Canada, as it was issued just days following the June 24, 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn the 1973 pro-abortion Roe vs. Wade decision.

Motion to eject pro-life MLA Patterk Netser from the Nunavut cabinet due to his pro-life Facebook comment
Totalitarian vote to remove democratically-elected Nunavut MLA Patterk Netser from cabinet for his pro-life statement asserting that "all lives matter", including the lives of babies in the womb. In retaliation for speaking this life-affirming truth, Netser was absurdly accused by Premier Joe Savikataaq of making comments "based in racism and gender violence". The vote to eject Netser took place on October 23, 2020 and passed by a vote of 14 to 3.

Question Response
Do you acknowledge that human life begins at conception (fertilization) ? --
Are there any circumstances under which you believe a woman should have access to abortion? (note: a surgical or medical intervention, designed to prevent the death of the mother but but which results in the unintended and undesired death of the pre-born child, is not an abortion. e.g. in cases of tubal pregnancy or cervical cancer) Yes (based on CBC survey)
Will you support measures to stop funding abortions with taxpayers' money in Nunavut? --
Do you agree women have the right to be thoroughly informed about the serious health consequences of abortion, the development of the child in the womb and the alternatives to abortion? --
Will you protect the rights of parents to educate their children according to their faith in matters of moral principles and beliefs concerning abortion, contraception and homosexuality? --
Will you support legislation to protect the right of health care workers who refuse to participate in procedures which are in violation of their religious or conscientious beliefs? --
Will you oppose euthanasia and instead support measures to promote “palliative care”, the purpose of which is to alleviate pain, and enhance the quality of life for terminally ill patients and those with disabilities? *Euthanasia is the direct and intentional killing of a person by action or omission, with or without that person’s consent, for what people mistakenly believe are compassionate reasons. --
