Senators to Vote on Internet Censorship

We are now one step closer to Big Brother controlling all that we see, hear, and read on the internet.

In a late night session that stretched to 1:30 a.m. last Tuesday morning, while most of us were sound asleep, Bill C-10 – the Internet Censorship Bill – was pushed through the House of Commons with the support of the Liberals, Bloc, and NDP.

Jay Cameron, a top lawyer with the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, had this to say about Bill C-10: “It is clear...that the federal government wants to increase control and penalties for speech and content that is not approved of by the ideologues in the Liberal Party. Unsurprisingly, the purpose of Bill C-10 is not to increase freedom of ‘thought, belief, opinion, and expression’ (section 2(b) of the Charter) but to further restrict it.”

This Bill places the entire internet under the auspices of the CRTC, directing them to prioritize politically correct and pro-LGBT content, while allowing them to eliminate “unauthorized” content. It will regulate what YouTube videos you watch, what Facebook posts you see, and which Websites are deemed legal or illegal. This will undoubtedly target pro-life, pro-family, and pro-faith voices that are critical of the current government’s policies.

Peter Menzies, a former CRTC commissioner, warned that Bill C-10 “doesn’t just infringe on free expression, it constitutes a full-blown assault upon it and, through it, the foundations of democracy.”

This is a very dangerous and tyrannical Bill.

Although Bill C-10 was passed in the House of Commons last Tuesday, there is still a chance to nix it before it becomes the law of the land.

CALL YOUR SENATOR - STOP BILL C-10!

The next stop for this Bill is the Senate, where it is being debated right now by Canada’s 105 Senators. Those Senators may choose to accept, reject, or amend this legislation, which means we still have time to try to make our voices heard!

Now is the time to contact our Senators and let them know that Canadians want a “free internet”, where the free exchange of ideas and opinions can continue to take place without government interference or manipulation.

If Bill C-10 passes into law – which will happen if the Senate rubber-stamps this Orwellian legislation – Canada will be following in the footsteps of Communist China, whose rulers have taken absolute control over everything their citizens access online. Do we really want to be like a Communist dictatorship?

Please take a moment to use our Action Alert Email tool to contact your Senator today and express your concern. We have composed a number of pre-scripted messages that you can send, or you can write your own message.

Let’s work to keep the internet “free” so we can continue to speak up for the voiceless and vulnerable among us – as our Lord has commanded us to do.

Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.
Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.
