CLC rating: Pro-abortion
Rating Comments: On August 24, 2017, Toronto City Councillor Paula Fletcher, along with fellow councillor Mary Fragedakis, TDSB Trustee Jennifer Story, and Toronto-Danforth MPP Peter Tabuns, jointly sent a letter of petition to Ontario Attorney General Yasir Naqvi, calling for the prohibition of pro-life signs and flyers distributed by the pro-life organization Canadian Centre for Bioethical Reform. The pro-life materials feature images of babies killed by abortion, which the above-named petitioners consider too grisly to be viewed by the public, but apparently not grisly enough to stop the murder of preborn children by abortion in the first place.

In June 2012, after the death of Henry Morgentaler, Councillor Fletcher sponsored a motion for council to honour the infamous abortionist with a minute of silence. Morgentaler admits to having personally killed over 80,000 children in the womb. The motion hailed the notorious abortionist as "a pioneer of reproductive freedom in Canada" whose "courage and determination helped ensure every Canadian woman has the right to choose... Beginning with his own practice and expanding across the country, Dr. Morgentaler challenged unjust laws that jeopardized women's health and well-being".

Votes, Surveys and Policy Decision Vote Score
Not Supportable
Illegal & discriminatory vote to prevent the appointment of a Catholic to Toronto's Public Health Board, on the basis of her religious beliefs
This motion, spearheaded by Councillor Joe Mihevc, was designed to discriminate against a Catholic School trustee Ms. Angela Kennedy, on the basis of her Christian beliefs regarding abortion and human sexuality. Employment discrimination on the basis of religious beliefs is illegal under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Trustee Kennedy had been appointed by a special committee, but a cabal of socially-liberal councillors, led by Mihevc, circumvented the normal appointment process by calling a vote and fearmongering against Kennedy about her religious beliefs. Trustee Kennedy was immensely qualified for the position, with 45 years experience as a registered nurse, and having undergone a rigorous application process. Catholics make up 33 percent of Toronto's population and it is only fair that they are given a single solitary seat at the table. The cabal of councillors hid their thinly veiled anti-Catholic bigotry behind weak arguments that barely concealed their contempt for her Christian beliefs. Sadly the discriminatory vote passed 20 to 17. [March 31, 2015]
Yes bad

Here are quotes from Paula Fletcher on various life and family issues:

After Fletcher sponsored a motion to pay tribute to arch-abortionist Henry Morgentaler, a pro-life councillor walked out in tribute. She reacted by telling reporters:  "Like him or not he had a very important moment in Canadian history in legalizing abortion for women and in the cultural movement... Councillor Minnan-Wong might not like it but the right to terminate a pregnancy is actually legal in our country."

Here are the answers for the questionnaire as provided by Paula Fletcher on 2022.

Question Response
Do you acknowledge that human life begins at conception (fertilization)? no response
Do you consider yourself pro-life or pro-choice? no response
Organizations like Planned Parenthood (PP) routinely counsel women to have abortions, and increasingly, are involved in dispensing the chemical abortion pill. Given that abortion is a controversial practice that many taxpayers in your municipality find abhorrent, do you agree that PP and similar “sexual health agencies" should not receive taxpayer funds through the municipality? no response
