Saving Conscience Rights in Ontario

On May 3rd at Queen’s Park, Ontario PC Critic for Health, MPP Jeff Yurek, introduced his private member’s Bill 129, called the "Freedom of Conscience in Health Care Act".

If passed, Bill 129 will amend the government’s legislation on assisted suicide (now soothingly-styled as "medical assistance in dying" or "MAID") to protect the conscience rights of doctors and other health care providers in Ontario. The bill would specifically allow health care professionals to refuse to participate, directly or indirectly, in killing their patients if it violates their conscience or religious beliefs, and would protect these health care workers from facing disciplinary action for such refusal.

MPP Yurek’s Bill 129 will be debated on Thursday, May 18, 2017. Read the short text of Bill 129.

CLC strongly encourages our supporters to phone, write and visit their MPP to demand that they pass this important bill to defend the basic freedoms of Ontarians from unprecedented government encroachment. Find your MPP here.
