Protest Leader Responsibilities

Volunteer Protest Leader Responsibilities
Bill C-9 Protests at MP Offices May 1, 2026

  • Getting some 12"x18" protest signs printed at your local copy or print shop. We've provided three designs as print-ready PDF files that leaders can email to their local print shop. See them below.

STOP BILL C-9 [view / download]

DEFEND FREE SPEECH [view / download]

PROTECT RELIGIOUS FREEDOM [view / download]

We suggest getting 7 of each sign printed so you have extras to hand out to people who didn't bring their own. We believe 20 signs in total would be enough.  Getting them printed double-sided would be ideal, but if that's too expensive, then single-sided would do. If you have no clue where to find a print shop, we can research to find one near you - just send us an email.

CLC can reimburse you up to $100 if you just email us a copy of your receipt/invoice afterwards. We suggest printing the signs on 16-pt, semi-gloss, coated card stock so the sign doesn't become floppy. Most printing quotes we've seen for this quantity of signs has been between $60 - $85.

  • In advance of May 1st, go visually check out the site of the MP's constituency office location. This will ensure that you don't get any "surprises" on May 1st, like not being able to find the place.  It's also helpful to be familiar with the section of public sidewalk where you'll be standing, and to check out where there's parking nearby for yourself and other participants.

  • As participants arrive, identify yourself as CLC's Volunteer Leader. Inform them that all they have to do is hold their signs for an hour, facing traffic, so that we maximize visibility of our message to the general community, and in that way, bring pressure to bear on the MP,as he or she realizes that more and more voters are becoming aware of the dangers of Bill C-9 and will blame the Liberals for it. Leaders can also suggest to participants that they can pray silently asking God to intervene in this battle for religious freedom, if they feel comfortable doing so .

  • The day prior to the event, phone or email the MP's constituency office, as a courtesy, to make their staff aware of the peaceful protest that will be held on public property outside the constituency office. Request that the MPor one of their staff be present to meet the crowd and hear their concerns about C-9, if possible.

       • During the rally, hand the MP's staff a 2-page letter listing the problems with Bill C-9. Campaign Life Coalition will send the letter to each Volunteer Leader. Handing the letter in should be done either at the beginning or end of the protest. If you feel comfortable doing so, you may also read out the statement to attendees before handing-it into the MP's staff.

    • Take a couple of photos of the crowd in action and send them to CLC afterwards.
