Candidate, Jamie Fox

Conservative Party, Malpeque, PE

Bio

Jamie Fox

CLC rating: Pro-abortion
Rating Comments: Previously, as a provincial MLA in Prince Edward Island, Fox claimed to be pro-life while at the same time, he applauded the provincial Liberal government's decision to commit abortions on the island and described the move as "good". Fox also holds the false idea that there exists a "constitutional right" to abortion and that the Supreme Court has declared that a "right" to abortion exists. Neither claim is true. The Supreme Court of Canada has never declared that a "right" to kill children in-utero is contained in Canada's Constitution.

In November 2023, Fox resigned from his provincial MLA's seat in Borden-Kinkora in order to become the candidate in the federal riding of Malpeque for the Conservative Party of Canada in the highly-anticipated next federal election.

Previous Occupation: Interim Leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Prince Edward Island / Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition.
Religion / Faith: unknown

Here are quotes from Jamie Fox on various life and family issues:

As Opposition Leader for the provincial PC Party, Mr. Fox claimed to be pro-life while agreeing with the Liberal government of the day that the killing of children in-utero should be permitted in PEI:  "I am pro-life. However, I do realize there are times and circumstances that have to be taken into account," [CBC News, 'P.E.I. Opposition Leader Jamie Fox weighs in on abortion', April 4, 2016]

As Opposition Leader for the provincial PC Party, Fox alleged having pro-life 'personal' conviction while applauding the establishment of an abortion facility on PEI soil:  “My personal stance is I am pro-life, however I do acknowledge that this is a personal issue and that there are circumstances that could possibly cause different outcomes.” [The Guardian, 'Liberal MLA disappointed in his own government’s abortion decision', April 6, 2016]

As Opposition Leader for the provincial PC Party, Fox falsely claimed that the Supreme Court declared that the constitution contained a right to abortion, which it never did:  “I totally respect the Supreme Court and the ruling that they have provided in regards to this being a Constitutional issue and that there is an obligation for all provinces to provide services.” [The Guardian, 'Liberal MLA disappointed in his own government’s abortion decision', April 6, 2016]
