Does your ballot actually count when you vote in a municipal election for City Councillors? When the voters elect a candidate to represent their voices on City Council, is that person actually allowed to speak and advocate on behalf of their electors?

Common sense, and the long-standing democratic tradition here in Canada, tell us that the answers should be YES. However, that's not the case in your municipality of Chatham-Kent. A small group of authoritarian overlords have decided that duly-elected Councillors cannot speak or advocate for their constituents on certain issues.

The Mayor and 12 Councillors overturned democracy and voted to silence Ward 4 Councillor Rhonda Jubenville. By extension, they silenced you, the people!

Councillor cancelled by woke colleagues for demanding fairness

In April 2023, Councillor Jubenville introduced a Motion to allow only the Canadian, Ontario, and the Chatham-Kent municipal flags to be flown on municipal buildings. This would effectively exclude the flags of all special interest groups.

Her Motion was a reaction to the arbitrary and unequal treatment of different groups by the Mayor, who has sole discretion in choosing which organizations will enjoy an official flag-raising ceremony, and which groups will not. For instance, the Mayor authorized flying of the controversial homosexual and transgender Pride flag, but rejected the pro-life flag of the local Kent Right to Life group.

Rhonda felt this unequal treatment was wrong. She believed that municipal Council should be impartial, non-ideological, and should treat all groups equally. Therefore, she introduced a Motion to ban all special-interest-group flags and banners on municipal buildings, thus ensuring that all groups are treated the same.

Sadly, Rhonda's common-sense Motion to introduce fairness and impartiality into the business of endorsing and flying flags at the Civic Centre didn't pass. However, it did lead to her persecution. Rhonda was savagely attacked on social media by LGBT fanatics, who view the Pride flag as an unassailable symbol of their superiority and conquest. Even the mere suggestion that the Pride flag should not receive special privileges is now called "homophobia" and "transphobia" by these relentless sexual militants.

Unbelievably, the Mayor and the majority of Rhonda's Council colleagues piled on and condemned her as deserving censure. As a result, Rhonda was investigated by a biased Integrity Commissioner who recommended that Rhonda's salary be suspended for 90 days!

Then, in a subsequent meeting in August, the Mayor and a whopping 12 of the other 16 Councillors voted to use the Integrity Commissioners' recommendation as a cudgel to persecute their colleague. They voted to strip away Rhonda's salary for three months, which will cost her $8,500!!

All of this abuse was heaped on Councillor Jubenville because of her principled Motion to observe fair and just policies in the flying of flags!
