Campaign Life Coalition laments Trudeau’s re-election, blames CPC loss on O’Toole’s leftward shift and Liberal-lite policies

Ottawa, September 21, 2021 – Campaign Life Coalition is disappointed, but not surprised, by the re-election of pro-abortion Justin Trudeau with a minority Liberal government. The election was a missed opportunity by Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole whose attempt to steer the party to the left backfired

“Trudeau’s Liberals are the party that champions death, and will continue to be a government that silences pro-life views for the foreseeable future,” said Jeff Gunnarson, National President of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC).  “The Liberal party is responsible for legalizing euthanasia, expanding abortion access in Canada, and for committing billions of Canadian tax dollars to funding and advocating for abortion overseas. Erin O’Toole’s Conservatives failed to give Canadians a legitimate alternative to the Liberals.”

“The Conservatives would’ve done much better if O’Toole had not alienated the party’s socially conservative base with his shameless support for abortion, LGBT ideology, oppressive lockdowns, and liberty-destroying vaccine passports, said Jack Fonseca, CLC's Director of Political Operations. “By insulting the base, O’Toole drove CPC voters into the waiting arms of Maxime Bernier. He caused many others to stay home on election day, leaving thedeflated andespondent about the political process.

Gunnarson called O’Toole a failed leader who needs to be replaced “O’Toole needs to resign, and the party should hold a leadership review at the earliest opportunity in order to choose a leader who can bring back all the social, fiscal, and democratic conservatives who were driven away from the party by his lurch to the left.”

CLC congratulates the many pro-life MPs who were elected tonight.

“Preborn babies will continue to have a voice representing them in these solid pro-life MPs endorsed by CLC who were elected tonight,” said Gunnarson.  “We pray that they will work together in ending the greatest injustice faced by the most vulnerable group.”

CLC acknowledges the 137 pro-life candidates who ran for the Conservative Party, the People’s Party of Canada, the Christian Heritage Party, Libertarian Party, or as Independents. We thank them for their witness to the sanctity of life.
