CLC rating: Pro-abortion
Rating Comments: Domenic Cardy was Leader of the New Brunswick NDP until January 2017, when he resigned from that position, then later the same month, in a surprise move, joined the PC party. Previously, while still NDP Leader, Cardy issued a declaration during the 2014 election campaign that all NDP MLAs must vote pro-abortion, even if it means violating their consciences and/or religious beliefs. Under Cardy's anti-democratic edict, it stands to reason that no NDP MLA would have dared go against the Party's pro-abortion policy for fear of being thrown out of caucus. At that time, the relentlessly pro-abortion Cardy also stated that, if elected, his NDP government would, "on day one" in office, repeal the existing rule that requires a sign-off by two doctors to certify that an abortion is 'medically necessary' before it can qualify for funding by taxpayers. As at July 2020, the NDP remained in disarray, without a single seat in the Legislature, and still lacking a new leader to replace Cardy.

Position on diverting taxpayer $$ towards paying for abortions at Morgentaler's private "clinic"
In 2014, the Liberal Party Leader in NB came out against the long-standing ban on public funding for private abortion facilities. For decades, all 3 major parties have agreed that the province shall not fund abortions at private abortion 'clinics'. Only abortions committed at hospitals are publicly funded. After an organized campaign to fund the Morgentaler abortuary, the Liberal Leader came out strongly in favour of fully-funded, abortion-on-demand.

Position on cancelling the provincial requirement that 2 doctors sign off on the abortion as 'medically necessary' before it gets funded by taxpayers.
This is the current, decades old policy of the New Brunswick government. It was agreed upon by all major parties until 2014 when the Liberal Leader suggested this modicum of restriction needs to be removed, in the name of 'a woman's right to choose'.

Bill 11, An Act Respecting Proof of Immunization
Introduced by former provincial NDP leader turned PC Minister of Education, Domenic Cardy, this authoritarian bill would require all students to provide proof of immunization in order to attend any of the province’s early learning and childcare facilities or public schools and would not allow any conscientious or religious-based exemptions – only medical ones. That means, for example, that if parents object to certain vaccines on the basis of their unethical development or implications, those objections would be ignored. It would be a disastrous precedent given the bill’s failure to recognize the morally dubious nature of a great number of vaccines. Thankfully, even amidst the panic associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, this enforced-injection bill was wisely, if narrowly, defeated by a vote of 22 to 20 on June 18, 2020.

Here are quotes from Dominic Cardy on various life and family issues:

As NDP Leader, Cardy pledged to reporters that the rule which requires 2 doctors to sign off on an abortion as 'medicallly necessary' before taxpayer money can be diverted to pay for it, would be repealed by an NDP Health minister:  “… on the first day behind his or her desk.” [CBC.ca, 'Brian Gallant's abortion stance offers opportunity and risk', Aug. 25, 2014]
