Candidate, Giuseppe Peritore

Halton Catholic District School Board, ON
Electoral District: Oakville

Giuseppe Peritore
CLC rating: Pro-life, but not a reliable vote
Rating Comments: Lost bid for a trustee seat in 2018 Ontario municipal elections. Although Peritori gave perfect answers to CLC's election questionnaire and is a regular attendee at pro-life events such as the 40 Days For Life campaign, he said that he disagreed with the wonderful Sanctity of Life policy which banned schools fundraising for charities that directly or indirectly promote the abortion, euthanasia, destruction of embryonic humans, contraception and sterilization, which the Catholic Church teaches are intrinsically evil.

Peritori said he had "issues" with denying Catholic dollars to organizations that only "indirectly" promote the evils of abortion, euthanasia, etc.

At an all-candidates debate in Oakville, he also suggested that he would set aside his own "personal values" if he were to be elected.

“You do check in your (opinions) at the door when you become elected,” said Peritore.

This is not an acceptable stance for a trustee who would be sworn to defend and promote the moral and doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church, which will always have opposition from the organized left.

Percentage in last election: 10.92% (2014)
Victory margin last election: -3.04 (2014)
Religion / Faith: Catholic
