Historic moment: VP Mike Pence at Washington March For Life

Today at the 44th annual March For Life in Washington, DC, history was made with Mike Pence becoming the first U.S. Vice President ever to speak at the March For Life, an event in which hundreds of thousands of Americans gather to demand an end to abortion.

Acknowledging the symbolic importance of today's heavy White House Administration presence at the March, Pence began his address telling the crowd, "I am deeply humbled to stand before you today, deeply humbled to be the first Vice President of the United States to ever have the.privilege to attend this historic day".

The commitment Pence made on behalf of President Trump's Administration to advancing a pro-life agenda represented, arguably, the boldest by any White House administration in the past.Vice President Pence's speech was moving and truly energized American pro-lifers.  Perhaps his best line, which he repeated often throughout his address to the crowd was, "Life is winning again in America!".

Pence cited many examples for why he believes that life is winning. "Life is winning again. That is evident in the winning of pro-life majorities in the Congress of the United States of America".  The Vice President added: "But it is no more evident, than in the historic election of a President who stands for a stronger America, a more prosperous America, and a President who I proudly say stands for the right to life - Donald Trump!"

Another powerful and incisive line from his address spoke to healing the societal problem of abortion being used as back-up birth control method: "Life is winning again...because compassion is overcoming convenience". The massive pro-life crowd was thrilled.

In the few days since taking office, the Trump Administration has already taken several pro-life actions:

  • Signed an Executive Order restoring the Mexico City Policy which bans US aid money from being sent to international organizations that promote or commit abortions;
  • Made permanent the "Hyde Amendment" which bans US taxpayer dollars from paying for abortions domestically (it has always been a renewable amendment which had to be voted on each year);
  • Begun the process to defund Planned Parenthood, the country's largest abortion provider and to redirect those tax dollars to healthcare centres that provide legitimate medical services to women;
  • Signed an Executive Order to repeal Obama Care, which forced U.S.. employers, even faith-based organizations, to offer the abortion pill to employees, through their corporate health insurance plansh

Today was a historic moment in the U.S.'s battle to uphold the sanctity of human life. Campaign Life Coalition stands united with our American brothers and sisters, in rejoicing for the pro-life renaissance that appears to be taking firm hold under the Trump/Pence Administration.

We also hold out some hope that many conservative politicians here in Canada take note that Donald Trump won, in part, because he ran as a pro-life presidential candidate, and that they become emboldened to likewise embrace a socially conservative agenda and, taking another cue from Trump, stop fearing the liberal media.

God bless America. God bless Canada.

Please watch VP Pence's incredible speech. Historians may look back at it as a moment when the tide turned.
